The award winning countryside pub with 12 very comfortable rooms, a large garden & private lodge that serves delicious food and the most refreshing refreshments!

The Queens is only 3 miles from junction 14 of the M4 – halfway between London and Bristol and within an hour’s drive of a number of historic locations including Highclere Castle, Blenheim Palace, Stonehenge as well as the quintessential English towns of Hungerford, Marlborough & Oxford.

Located in the beautiful village of East Garston, in an area of outstanding natural beauty and perfectly placed for visitors to the Ridgeway and Welford Park with their amazing snowdrops (Jan/Feb).

In the heart of the Valley of the Racehorse with some of the best racing yards close by and very convenient for those going to Newbury Racecourse.

Food & Drink

Whether looking for an intimate table of two, a family/party table or your own venue for private use, The Queens has it all!  On arrival you will discover a large friendly bar that leads into our newly refurbished restaurant & garden room and then our terrace and large enclosed garden – the perfect location for alfresco dining. Children and dogs welcome.

Breakfast – available from 7.30am or earlier if required. Choose from a selection of continental pastries, fresh fruit and organic cereals. Create your own cooked breakfast or enjoy the traditional Queens English breakfast.
Lunch 12-2.30pm (4pm Sunday)
Dinner (Mon-Sat 6-9pm). An extensive menu that is varied and seasonal and wherever possible, uses local produce. Our pub classics will always be popular but there is also a varied selection of fine dining options and Fish Friday is a particular favourite with our regulars.
Pizza (evenings & Sundays 4-8pm). The Queens has two wood burning ovens which guarantees great pizza all year round!

Menus

The Queens offers extensive menus that are varied, seasonal and wherever possible, use local produce. 

Breakfast is served in the Garden Room and offers the option of fresh fruit, pastries and cereals or alternatively you can create your own full English. 

Lunch and dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant, bar, garden room or when the English summer allows, outside on the terrace. Our menus give you the option to enjoy a pub classic or one of our head chef’s exquisite a la carte dishes.

Sunday lunch is a feast of delicious roasts and proper puddings whilst in the afternoons we offer pizza straight from our wood-fired oven.

Our menus are suitable for all diners with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes available and whatever your choice we have a wide selection of wines to match.

Situated in the heart of The Queens, the restaurant overlooks the garden and features a selection of small and large tables with a mix of comfy chairs, long benches and deep sofas. 

Capable of seating intimate tables of 2, up to large parties of 40.

The Bar

The heart and soul of The Queens! With a very large, well stocked bar, cosy wood burner and comfy seating, this is a place to relax and unwind. 

There’s plenty of room to socialise at the bar but for those that prefer a quiet corner there are lots of nooks and crannies and the leather booth is always particularly popular.

With large screens at either end, it also a great place to watch the racing, 6 Nations and the big sporting events.

Garden Room & Outdoor Dining

Leading out from the restaurant and looking over the garden, this light and airy section of The Queens is very popular with diners. 

Away from the hub of the bar, this tranquil area features tables of 2+, bench seating and has it’s own TV screen. Breakfast is served here and the room can be set up for private functions or business meetings.

Split into two sections, the large garden area at The Queens features a terrace and play area,

The terrace is ideal for dining and socialising with instant access to our wood fired pizza oven and outdoor bar. The bottom end of the garden is used as a play area for the children – the football goal is a great place to lose them for some hours!

Whether young or old, this is the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine and relax!

Twelve Ensuite Bedrooms

The Queens features 12 bespoke ensuite bedrooms, that centre around seriously comfortable beds with crisp bed linen, feather pillows and duvets, flat screen smart TVs, hairdryers, digital radios, super-fast broadband and organic REN toiletries.

Guests have the option of baths or walk in showers and our honeymoon suite, The Wishing Well, features a two person whirlpool bath. 

The Queens also features two family rooms where one door connects two large bedrooms and the bed can be arranged as one extra large king-size double or two large singles. Z beds can also be provided..

Dogs are welcome to stay and will be provided with their own bed, bowl and treats!

The Wishing Well – Deluxe Double with Whirlpool Bath & Shower

The Wishing Well is our most luxurious suite that features a very large/comfortable bed, cosy sitting area and two bathrooms; one with a large whirlpool bath, the other with walk in shower. Also has it own entrance porch and outdoor seating area. 

Named after the mystical wishing well that lay undiscovered for many, many years in a field nearby, our best room is very popular with those on honeymoon or looking for an idyllic romantic break. 

Tucked away from the hub of the pub, this is the place to come, relax and be happy!

Executive Suite

Blenheim Palace

As with many of our rooms, this one is named after a famous local landmark which is under an hour’s drive from The Queens. Large photos of the palace adorn the walls and like all our rooms, it features a large, seriously comfortable bed. 

The room also has an ornate stand alone bath and separate walk in shower, and being Blenheim, we had to have a gold loo!

Doubles & Twins

Hennessy, Many Clouds, Suny Bay, Bobsworth, Highclere Castle, Welford Park, Lambourn Downs, Ashdown House & The White Horse

Named after the famous horserace that Hennessy sponsored at Newbury Racecourse for over fifty years and three of the locally trained winners of the race. Photos of the winning horses adorn the walls, bringing back magical memories of their triumphant day. Other rooms are named after a number of popular local attractions.

For those that love their racing, it’s quite likely that you will see a trainer or jockey enjoying themselves in the restaurant or bar, especially after a big race winner! And if you would like a morning on the gallops, trips to a local yard can be arranged.

Like all our beds at the Queens, these are seriously comfortable and are designed so that they can be made up as one extra large king-size double or two large singles. There is also the choice of a bath/shower or walk in shower.

The rooms can be converted into family suites with one door leading into two interconnecting rooms. Z beds can also be provided if required.

With it’s large garden and plenty of open space in the most beautiful countryside, The Queens is an idyllic place to bring your family and best friend (the dog!). East Garston also features local walks, bike trials and the Ridgeway is close by.

Not only are young ones and dogs catered for outside the boundaries of The Queens, we look after them inside too. Our kids’ menu, sweet machines and large garden with football goal are particular favourites with the children whilst our dog beds & treats also make The Queens a favourite stopover for our waggy tailed friends. 

The Queens also features two family suites where one door opens up to two interlocking rooms – perfect for a couple and young family. Z beds can be arranged also.

The Queens Lodge

Just a short walk from The Queens yet miles away from anyone else! The Lodge features oak beams, large open fireplace, a well stocked bar and leads onto its own south facing terrace and garden.

The Lodge is also perfect for business meetings/conferences with the option of a long boardroom table or a number of break out zones. The Lodge is fully equipped with full conference facilities: superfast broadband, a large screen & surround sound.

Alternatively The Lodge can be created into a theatre with stage and seating for 100 people.

Ideal for private parties, weddings & celebrations for 20-60 seated or up to 100 buffet. Fully equipped for any occasion with access to a number of preferred suppliers for live music/DJ/lighting/flowers. 12 ensuite rooms also available in The Queens featuring The Wishing Well, our honeymoon suite with whirlpool bath.

The Queens Lodge is an idyllic location for small/medium sized weddings as the central hall can either be set for fine dining for up to 60 people or alternatively for a buffet (max 100 people). For those looking to invite a larger number of guests the terrace/garden offers plenty of room for additional tables/marquees.

The happy couple and their guests also have the option of making a night of it. The Queens has 12 ensuite bedrooms and features The Wishing Well, our honeymoon suite with large whirlpool bath.

The Lodge is fully equipped to cater for all types of weddings and for those personal touches, The Queens has a list of preferred suppliers for music, DJ, lighting, flowers, children’s entertainment etc.

There is no venue hire fee. The cost of private hire of The Lodge and garden, fully equipped/staffed for any size event, is incorporated in the chosen menu price.

Parties & Events

The flexibility of The Lodge means that it is perfectly suited as an intimate location to host a small group or as a great party venue to celebrate with a large number of family and friends. 

For small gatherings, The Lodge can be split into two with a cosy area featuring luxurious seating/sofas in front of the roaring fire and a dining area with an extendible oak table that can seat up to 24. For summer parties, there is the choice of dining alfresco.

For parties of up to 60, guests can be seated at a choice of round or straight tables. Alternatively, for the larger buffet parties, The Lodge can be cleared so that there is plenty of space to mingle and dance the night away. The large terrace/garden also offers added opportunities.

The Queens is centrally located between Oxford, Newbury and Swindon and being just three miles from the M4, has easy access to Heathrow, London and the West.

The Queens Lodge with full conference facilities is considered the ideal location for any size of meeting or conference. Smaller meetings can also be held in the bar and Garden Room at the Queens. 

Delegates can enjoy a simple working menu or full gastronomical experience as The Queens can cater for 60 seated or up to 100 buffet and for those travelling from afar, The Queens has 12 ensuite bedrooms.

We cater for breakfast meetings, morning coffee, all day meetings, business lunches, dinners and overnight stays.

Get Directions

From Junction 14, head north towards Great Shefford and Wantage on the A338. As you enter Great Shefford the road swings sharply to the left. Turn left, following signs to East Garston 1¾m. Don’t turn off this road and as you enter East Garston, you will see The Queen’s Arms on your right.
